The Texas State soccer team, off to its best start in school history, will put a four-game winning streak on the line Sept. 12 when the Bobcats host Texas Christian University.

The first time these schools met was in 1999, when TCU defeated the Bobcats 4-0. Since then the teams have met four more times with TCU leading the series 3-2.

Texas State is 1-1 at home against TCU and 1-2 on the road. The Bobcats’ last victory against the Horned Frogs occurred in 2010.

“I believe the formation we are playing this year is better than the one we played my freshman year, mainly because it utilizes all of our strengths.” junior forward Lynsey Curry said. “On top of that, we have more numbers going forward, which maximizes our opportunities in front of the net.”

Tori Hale, senior forward, is two assists away from having the most assists in program history. Hale and Kassi Hormuth, freshman forward, have combined for six goals this season.

“Kassi is just a phenomenal talent,” Coach Kat Conner said. “I was so excited when she committed here because I knew she could be that good of a player and that great of a finisher for us. I told her, ‘We just need you in or around the box, and I know then you can put the ball away.’”

The Bobcats have scored 10 goals through on 81 shot attempts this year.

“Going into TCU, I think it’s great to have Lynsey Curry, Kassi Hormuth and Tori (Hale) up there,” Conner said. “Then, of course, Lauren Prater is getting her confidence up, and Clarissa Leon is coming back off of a little bit of an injury, but as soon as she gets her confidence in there too, it’s just such a dynamic attack. It’s great, as a coach, to have that many great players that you can look to.”

The Bobcats host the UTSA Roadrunners Sept. 14. In their last meeting in 2012, the Bobcats won in double-overtime, 1-0.

This will be the eighth meeting between the two schools dating back to 2006, with Texas State leading the series 3-2-2. Texas State is 2-1 at home and 1-1-2 on the road all-time against the Roadrunners.

“If we can stay mentally checked into the game for all 90 minutes and be disciplined in our style of play, then we should be able to put a couple of balls in the back of the net,” Curry said.

Both the Horned Frogs and Roadrunners run similar offensive attacks to the Bobcats. Conner anticipates time of possession playing a big role in both matches.

“I think time of possession is going to be very important, but also I think they’re going to play kind of like TCU,” Conner said. “They’re going to have a great front runner and a great playmaker in the middle, so we’re going to be very disciplined and stay compact defensively. If we get strung out defensively, they’ll go right through us. We’re always looking to possess, and with that we try to bring numbers around the ball. You give a ball, you have to be an option to get it back, so that gives us multiple options to be a threat.”
